On 17 December, EUnited submited its reply to the Commission’s consultation (link to the consultation page) on the revision of the Standardisation Regulation (1025/2012).
EUnited’s contribution to the consultation stresses the need to build on the existing European Standardisation System rather than replacing it. The current system is robust and should be improved to ensure the timely availability of standards aligned with legislation, recognising the trade-off between speed and quality and the limited availability of experts.
EUnited calls for early legislative planning, stable HAS consultant criteria, improved communication, and further digitalisation of processes. Harmonised Standards (hENs) should remain the primary tool to ensure legal certainty, with alternative instruments used only under clearly defined conditions. The contribution also highlights the importance of inclusiveness through financial support, training, and harmonised participation conditions, as well as strengthening Europe’s global influence by reinforcing leadership in international standardisation and cooperation with like-minded partners.
