The impacts of EU policy on industrial competitiveness

Join us on May 7th, 2018, at the Wiltcher’s Steigenberger Hotel, Brussels, and learn about the impact of various EU policies on European industrial competitiveness.

Workshops will be held on EU ecodesign policy, EU trade policy and the EU strategy on artificial intelligence (AI) and their impact on the competitiveness of European industry.

The Ecodesign Directive sets down market-entry requirements on the energy performance of various energy-related products. Up to now the focus has been on improving energy efficiency, but more and more the Commission is looking at ways of improving resource and material efficiency of these products. This could have an enormous impact on many EUnited sectors. Find out more on what the Commission intends to do in this area, and what this could mean for European competitiveness during this workshop.

A second workshop will look at European trade policy, with particular attention being paid to ongoing heated debates regarding steel and aluminum tariffs in the U.S. and what impact they might have on the competitiveness of European industry.

A dinner will be held in the evening of May 7th, 2018, at the Steigenberger Hotel Brussels, which will include presentations and discussions on another highly relevant topic on which the European institutions are just beginning their work: Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI has been receiving a huge amount of media coverage, mainly due to a number of ethical issues that need to be considered.  But AI is only now finding its niche in manufacturing. As the technology matures and costs go down—and as manufacturers discover applications for which AI algorithms can make complex decisions, AI will increasingly play an important role in European competitiveness.

Don't miss this opportunity of active networking and getting up to speed on topics that greatly matter to our industry.
